Who is the new stallion super star whose genes are flooding sport horse breeding? It would seem there’s a new ‘kid’ on the block dominating in the foal stakes, whose performance, like those of his highly popular sons, peacked at the WBCYH!
This you might remember was the case with Sandro Hit, though the owners of the black stallion were open about having no desire to go on the big tour classes, unlike this new ‘star’ Escamillo.
Escamillo offspring
Escamillo’s son Escanto (out of Fairytale PS by Fürstenball out of a Totilas mare) was the sire of 195 foals in 2023 which put him at the head of the Oldenburg top 10. The dark-brown stallion won his performance test and gold at the 2023 Bundeschampionate in 2023 with American Brandi Roenick and that’s it, the seven-year -stallion has no results at all on the FEI data base.
Escamillo has another of his sons in this year’s Oldenburg top 10, in eighth we find Escaneno (out of a Rohdiamant x Vitalis mare). He too has a Young Horse result, eighth in the six-year-old World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in 2025.
Across the border in Holland, Escamillo is also making his mark. His son Extreme US sired 281 foals in 2025 to top the KWPN top 10, though this is down from 454 the previous year. He too won his performance test, and went on to win the 2023 Pavo Cup and the 2025 KWPN stallion finals, but since then has not troubled the keepers of the FEI database.
Extreme stands at the mega stallion station of Joep van Uytert, so I asked him...
◆ Why do you think Extreme is so popular?
Like the name says, he is an extremely good horse. He did a very good performance test and showed all his natural movements, walk trot and canter. The year later we showed him in the KWPN stallion show under saddle and the results were really good. Then he won the PAVO cup, and after that there were a lot of breeders who want to breed with him. He has interesting breeding with Escamillo new blood for The Netherlands, then the mother line with Vivaldi then one of the best mares in the world, the Don Schufro mare with five Grand Prix horses.
◆ Is he working better with any particular mares?
In my opinion, to breed best he needs enough blood, the mare must have enough blood. It’s hard to tell because the oldest by him are only two and a half, three. The rideability looks really good. They have a bit of Don Schufro, and that bloodline can have really good rideability when they get older. A lot of people send me videos of them under saddle and they look really good for the future.
◆ Escamillo’s sons are coming up in all the studbooks, what do you think Escamillo will give to sport horse breeding?
When I look at the progeny of Escamillo now, as they get older, I see they need enough blood, and Extreme is one of the offspring of him who has a lot of blood, that makes me happy, because some get a bit heavy. Extreme himself as he gets older he gets more and more blood and it shows in his offspring. His mother is a Vivaldi mare and with Escamillo, it’s a really good combination...
