SBS approves 33 stallions at their International Selection Show

The SBS International Selection Show took place from February 26-28 when the stallion selection committee decided to approve 33 of the 50 candidate stallions, including two pony stallions (one showjumping, one dressage option), 29 showjumping stallions and two dressage stallions.

The bloodlines proved to be very heterogeneous, and among the showjumping stallions there is only one sire with two sons approved, namely the Selle Français Ermitage Kalone (Catoki [Holst] - Bellaventure Kalone [SF] x Kannan GFE [KWPN]). He was bred by Magali Dessalles.
The candidate stallions that participated at the inspection had all received a positive veterinary examination beforehand. During the stallion inspection, each stallion was scored on conformation and gaits on the one hand, and sporting aptitude on the other, expressed in a number of stars (ranging from one star to a maximum of five stars). To be approved as a stallion, he had to achieve at least three stars on each of the two evaluation criteria. After the inspection, the number of stars per criterion was recorded for the approved stallions. In this article, we limit ourselves to a description of the showjumping stallions with at least four stars on both criteria. We also describe the licensed pony and dressage stallions.
The stallion with the highest score is named A Ladykiller VDM. This three-year-old showjumping stallion received five stars from the judges for conformation and gaits, and four stars for sporting aptitude. The Bruggeman family bred A Ladykiller VDM from the cross of the progenitor Chacco-Blue with Quality Queen VDM, a daughter of ET Cryozootech Z (a clone of ET) out of the five-star Grand Prix mare Killer Queen VDM.
Quality Queen was born in 2016 and was used exclusively as a broodmare. Successfully, incidentally. From her 2023 crop, two sons were approved as breeding stallions: A Ladykiller VDM and his half-brother Alexander de Muze (Mosito van het Hellehof). Quality Queen VDM’s dam is none other than Killer Queen VDM, who caused a furore in the international showjumping scene for years under the saddle of Daniel Deusser. She won the five-star Grands Prix of Calgary, Aachen, and Doha, the World Cup class in Mechelen, the Nations Cups in Rome and Brussels... and the list goes on.
A Ladykiller VDM belongs to one of the best dam lines in the world, the Qerly Chin line (BWP lineage 34). In his dam line, we find no fewer than five mares in succession that have performed up to and including 1m60 level: Killer Queen VDM, and furthermore her dam (Derly Chin de Muze), granddam (Werly Chin de Muze), great-granddam (Qerly Chin), and great-great-granddam (Kerly). During the SBS stallion approval in Gesves, the noble A Ladykiller VDM managed to impress during the free jumping. He jumped with great ease, athletic scope, and a quick foreleg technique.
We now move to the approved showjumping stallions that achieved four stars on the previously mentioned selection criteria. We start with Arthur van HD, bred by Daniel Van Hooydonk. Arthur is sired by the progenitor Bamako de Muze out of Roxana van HD (Taran de la Pomme - Kandy van HD x Darco). In partnership with Christophe De Brabander (a son of the well-known stallion keeper and veterinarian Joris De Brabander) and Koen Vereecke, Roxana jumped at 1m30 level. From her first crop, Victor van HD (by Quickly van de Kruishoeve) was approved as a breeding stallion...
