With the 2022 auction year now behind us, below is a roundup of some of the notable features of the year.
Breeding News provided full results of 264 auctions throughout the year, with 7168 individual sales of horses, foals and embryos sired by 1567 different stallions. Note that these are only auctions where sales results are published, many auction houses choose not to make their sales available.
2022 saw a significant rise in the number of embryos offered for sale with 762, or over 10% of all sales made.
Chacco-Blue was the leading sire of sales made with 287 resulting in a total value of 6,398,480 €. Of these 185 were embryo sales, by far the greatest number of any stallion.
Cornet Obolensky was runner up with 5,075,371 € from 189 recorded sales.
The stallion with the highest average price for sales was Casallco whose 14 sales averaged 317,067 €. This includes the record breaking sale of Chyazint, a six-year-old Oldenburg mare at the P.S.I. auction who had reached the staggering total of 4,000,000 € when the hammer fell.
Unsurprisingly, the P.S.I. auction also produced the highest total sales value of any auction with 22,992,000.00 € from 50 sales.
The highest number of sales at an individual auction was the FENCES Elite auction, Deauville (FRA), where 129 horses were offered of which 110 were sold at an average price of 40,755 €.
