The Holsteiner-bred stallion Quel Homme de Hus (Quidam de Revel - P-Hawaii x Candillo, Stamm 4847, bred by Dr. Andreas Kosicki) is having an outstanding 2019 under the saddle of Belgium’s Jerome Guery. They were members of the gold medal team at this year’s European championship in Rotterdam. They were also qualified among the top 25 riders for the individual final, but Guery decided not to start.
In September, they also contributed to Belgium’s silver medal during the FEI Nations’ Cup final in Barcelona, clocking just four faults over two rounds (4/0).
Holsteiner roots combined with French blood
Quel Homme de Hus’s dam, P-Hawaii (Candillo - Hawai II x Alcatraz, bred by Hans Joachim Horns) descends from a family with a long breeding history, as her motherline has been in the hands of Horns for nearly six decades.
He started the line with the 1963-born mare Zoene (Pol - Nachtblume x Matador, Stamm 4847, bred by Paul Reimers). According to Marc Horns: “My father can still remember this mare, and my uncle Hans has built up this complete line. We are very proud of Quel Homme de Hus. Everybody is asking if we still have semen, and we have a mare in foal to him. We have already received requests asking we want to sell the foal.”
Zoene is half-sister to Inula (Fantus) who is the mother of the Lancer brothers (Landgraf I), I (1984), II (1986), and III (1990). A daughter of Zoene is Fames (Flacon) and, as Marc Horns explains: “We have built up two lines out of the mare Fames with the mares Lotte (Rinaldo) and Wonne (Landgraf I). Out of Lotte’s branch comes the mare Triwitta (Calvados I), who produced in combination with Landgraf I the mare Hera. Hera is mother to L’Esprit (Lupicor), who was the champion stallion at the KWPN approvals and sired the top mare California, with Edwina Tops-Alexander. Quel Homme de Hus comes also from this branch. His grandmother, the mare Hawai II, is mother to Caraccho (Cachas) who jumped 1m40; Erik der Rote (Quantum) is jumping at 1m50 with Steffen Hauter; Lennie 3 (Lennon) jumped at 1m50 with Gerold Gögele; and Lanuvio (Lancer II) jumped at 1m60 with Heinz Holbach and Emre Celikkol.
“From Wonne’s branch comes the 1m60 showjumper Loro Piana Cartella (Con Air - Normandie V x Quantum, bred by Thomas Horns) who jumped under the saddle of Giulia Martinengo Marquet in the Longines Global Champions Tour. At the age of four, Cartella had a colt by Cachas who was later approved at Zangersheide and jumped at 1m45 under the saddle of Boy-Adrian Van Gelderen...To read the complete article you need to be a subscriberCLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE TO BREEDING NEWS
