Rewriting history, the KWPN Stallion Show continues, but with everything now live-streamed by the studbook to reach every corner of the world, enabling armchair viewing under ongoing Covid travel restrictions. This year, jumpers opened the show – with 50 horses selected for the saddle test, while dressage saw 39 stallions progressing to the performance text.

As far as the jumping group was concerned, Willeke Bos’s Stal 104 from Wijdewormer, close to Amsterdam, was remarkably successful, and you can read an interview with her on the following pages 18-19.
Interestingly, anyone watching the live-streamed free jumping may have noted that there were few stallions who could be considered outstanding this year. Certainly, it was noticed by Cor Loeffen, chairman of the selection committee, who commented following the presentation by saying that the horses were shown in a very natural way, which is what they wanted to see. However, they were looking for several characteristics that would determine whether or not stallions would be sent to the saddle test.
The first day delivered 28 approved jumping stallions with a lot of foreign bloodlines, such as the line of ’t Roosakker, and also from some of the best-known bloodlines in France and Hannover. Remarkably, three selected stallions represented Cape Coral RBF Z (Cornet Obolensky - Gerona PP x Argentinus, breeder: M. Coenen) who impressed the judges.
On the second and last day for the jumpers at the stallion show, a further 22 stallions joined the group, and also provided four that were specifically awarded premiums, for a total of five overall.
