The awarding of the premium and champion stallions formed the crowning finale of the 23rd DSP Licensing at the Olympic Equestrian Center in Munich-Riem. Of the 36 showjumping stallions presented, 24 were licensed, 11 of which also received a premium.
The dressage group comprised 55 stallions, 28 of which received the coveted licensing predicate, and nine of whom additionally received the sash of a premium stallion. The suspense remained until the very end, as the premium group had been announced the evening before, but the secret of the champion and reserve champion was only revealed on the final day of the event.
Showjumping: “Long-legged and light-footed”
It’s a long-standing tradition of the DSP Stallion Days that the respective Licensing Commissioner Sport of the commission provides commentary on the top stallions. And so it was Andy Witzemann, the showjumping commissioner, who described the first champion stallion of the event, a son of Heartbreaker out of a Diarado mare: “Long-legged, light-footed, and modern,” he complimented the dark bay, bred by Uwe Eberhardt in Herbrechtingen, Baden-Württemberg, and presented by Jürgen Laue from Gerbstedt in Saxony-Anhalt. Furthermore, the champion stallion moved “with great scope and impulsion.” With this offspring, the stallion’s dam has already produced her third licensed stallion, including a full brother to the DSP champion.
The first reserve champion of the showjumping stallions was a capable bay by Million Dollar out of a Caretino dam. This stallion belongs to a highly decorated dam line that has produced not only numerous licensed stallions, such as Diarado, the former Holsteiner licensing champion, but also sport horses successful on the international stage. The stallion was bred and presented by Klaus Isaak from Künzelsau in Baden-Württemberg. Second reserve champion is a dark-brown stallion by Cornet’s Balou x Chellano Z, who impressed with his excellent jumping technique and was bred by Erich Priewasser in Altheim, Austria. He was presented by Hartmut Keitel and Jürgen Laue, who thus had double cause for celebration.
Other stallions awarded prizes included those by Chacco-Blue x Ugano Sitte, Cornet Obolensky x Contendro I, Denzel van het Meulenhof x Cellestial, Diamant de Semilly x Cornet Obolensky, Emerald van het Ruytershof x Balou du Rouet, Martini VDL x Glenfiddich VDL, Rob Roy vd Bisschop x Zambesi, and Zirocco Blue x Askari.
