‘Grande Dame’ Poesie has passed away

1726

The very special mare Poesie (Brentano II – Primadonna x Gotland, breeder: Brandenburgisches Haupt- u. Landgestüt, Stiftung) has passed away at the age of 30.

Poesie only completed one class under saddle, as a three-year-old in Warendorf in the hands of Udo Novak. Her offspring excelled as dressage horses, and she is mother of the Samba Hit (Sandro Hit) series – five full- and all-approved brothers. Samba Hit I competed at Grand Prix level, and their full sister Poetin I, born in 1997, was the best German-bred dressage horse of her time. She won the Bundeschampionat as a five- and six-year-old, and became world champion at the age of six, when she was sold to Peter van der Zwan for €2.5 million. Poesie's bloodline is assured through her daughters, sons and the generations still to come.

The Haupt- und Landgestüt Neustadt (Dosse) issued the following statement:

"Yesterday, at the age of 30, we had to say goodbye to our exceptional mare Poesie. As the dam of horses such as the Bundeschampioness and World Champion Poetin I, the licensed Samba Hit I to ,V and of course as the granddam of the unforgotten Quaterback, Brentano II daughter Poesie has had a decisive influence on the Neustadt P family. We owe a lot to this extraordinary mare. With her special personality and kindness, Poesie conquered all hearts. She spent her last years lovingly cared for by Madeleine Mann and the staff of the breeding department around mare master Ronny Voigt at the main stud.

"With her offspring, Poesie not only immortalised herself in our stud herd, but also influenced dressage horse breeding worldwide. A monument was erected to her together with her daughter Poetin I, which reminds us daily of the Grande Dame Poesie.

Dear Poesie, we will never forget you!”
