Gerrit and Ute Brinkmann bring immigrant talent to CWHBA

Canada is a land of immigrants, a fact that is reflected in the CWHBA’s membership by the number of immigrant Warmblood breeders that have made a significant impact on the industry in this vast country.

That impact is often two fold. First is the knowledge of bloodlines and experience in developing talent that is often felt. Secondly, and perhaps most important, is through direct participation and support of Canadian organizations and institutions. Gerrit and Ute Brinkmann, owners and operators of Equitop Farm in New Norway Alberta, fit this description to a T.
Originating from horse families in Germany, they immigrated to Canada in 1988 with a small group of Warmblood yearling fillies. Very early on they embraced the CWHBA while continuing to be loyal to their German roots. They understand the importance of supporting local organizations, commenting that “It’s important for Canada to have it’s own organization. Our fees paid to this registry allow us to support local initiatives and be able to work with local people and local events.”
Putting these words into practice has meant regular participation in the Fall Classic Warmblood Breeder's Sale, with several high sellers and generous support of the annual Stallion Service Auction. In addition Gerrit is an active member of the Alberta Chapter board of directors.
Quality not quantity is their breeding goal and they have not been disappointed, producing a number of horses that have had success in sport. Of particular note is Woody, by Widukind, their first stallion. Woody, in partnership with Canadian international Lisa Carlsen, recorded numerous wins during the Spruce Meadows Summer Series, as well as the Keg Steakhouse Grand Prix at Thunderbird Showpark in Langley, BC. More recently their home-bred mare Charmonie has gone to the prestigious Maclay Finals in New York with her junior owner, after a series of Equitation wins in the USA...
