A highlight of this year's DSP Eventers auction on May 11, 2024 in Marbach was the auction of one of the last available frozen semen straws (ICSI free) from the unforgettable sire Heraldik xx.

The Thoroughbred of the century from the Birkhof Stud has influenced German and world horse breeding with his offspring like no other.
The son of Caramel xx, born in Slovakia in 1982, was successful in showjumping up to 1m50 level after a short stint on the racetrack, before starting his breeding career with the Casper family at the Birkhof stud. Due to his extraordinary charisma, he had many fans from the start and was also widely used beyond the borders of Baden-Württemberg. He has more than rewarded the breeders' trust in his hereditary power. While the foals and youngsters were stunning types and great movers, the first Heraldik's xx under saddle were really impressive.
Among his many successful stand-out offspring in eventing, the Olympic champions Butts Abraxxas (Ingrid Klimke) and Butts Leon (Andreas Dibowski) as well as the individual European champion FBW Halunke (Michael Jung).
Other four- and five-star horses from Heraldik xx include:
• Butts Avedon (2003/Hann: Andora 23 [Hann] x Kronenkranich xx) Andreas Dibowski (GER); bred by Friedrich Butt
• TSF Karascada M (1997/Trak: Karatschi II [Trak] x Anduc [Trak]) Kai Steffen Maier (GER); bred by Hannelore Meier
• Happy Times (1999/Oldbg: Mandy [Westf] x Marashino [Westf]) Shane Rose (AUS); bred by Antonius Schulte-Südhoff
• Tabasco (2000/Trak: Titania III [Trak] x Heling [Trak]) Marylin Little (USA); bred by Karl-Heinz Schulenburg
• Hamilton 24 (2000/Hann: Fiorella [Hess] x Furioso’s Sohn [Oldbg]) Josefa Sommer (GER), bred by Joachim Sommer
• Harry Belfonte (2003/Hess: Zamira [Hess] x Zamiro [KWPN]) Thierry van Reine (NED) and Alica Naber-Lozeman (NED); bred by Karl-Heinz and Christa Backhaus
• Hilton P (2003/Hann: Quickly P [Hann] x Quasi Roi [SF]) Patrizia Attinger (SUI); bred by Herbert Putfarcken
• Henri Z (2005/Z: Rozina vd Hertogen [BWP] x Landaris [Holst]) Ralf Kooremans (NED); bred by Robert Andries.
A total of six of his offspring jumped at 1m60 level, including the licensed Herald (Markus Beerbaum [GER] and Eric Lamaze [CAN]), and Hoyo de Monterey (Stein Endresen [NOR]).
In the dressage arena there were four Heraldiks at Grand Prix level, the most successful being H-Ekwador, under the saddle of Karazuyna Milczarek (POL), who participated several times in Olympic and World Equestrian Games... To read the complete article you need to be a subscriber
