It is almost that time of the year again that the stallion approvals start. In Germany it means that the first selection will also start from several Studbooks. The numbers for the presented stallions are going down since a few years and the main reason for that is that the amount of foal being born has dropped also.
The number of foals born in 2015: 2,764. The bloodlines are also changing. Let’s take a look at a few past years of the first selection of the Holsteiner stallion approvals. The number of approved stallions listed in Holsteiner were 276 in 2012 (although some are missing from this list); 250 in 2015, while in 2018 we are down to 2003.

Casall’s popularity continues

There is one stallion who has already been ‘pulling the cart’ for a number of years already: Casall (Caretino - Kira XVII x Lavall I, Stamm 890, bred by Wilfried Thomann). Casall had a more-than-proven career in sport under the saddle of Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and quite a few of his offspring are following in his footsteps. His daughter Cita (Casall - Pik Pauline x Pik Ramiro, bred by Anja Steen) currently appears in the WBFSH-ROLEX jumping ranking in 14th place under the saddle of Irishman Daniel Coyle.

In 2012, 22 direct Casall offspring were presented at the first selection, plus eight grandsons via his son Connor (out of Korrada S x Cor de la Bryere, Stamm 6879, bred by Eduard Struve). In that same year Connor had two sons approved: Coventry (out of Picante I x Contender, Stamm 8769, bred by Hobe Magens) and Contento (out of Ocora x Corrado I, Stamm 8750, bred by Herbert Blöcker). Casall himself also had two sons approved: Cascadello II (out of Viviana x Clearway, Stamm 4847, bred by Detlef Hennings) and Clarcon (out of Tassina x Cassini I, Stamm 3692, bred by Avora Pferde GmbH & CO.KG)...
