SWEDEN (by Adriana van Tilburg) A showjumping spectacle from day one when studbook excitement began. In the 17 placed combinations, BWP was represented by six horses with Westfalians on five. Two apiece for Holsteiner and Selle Français, sBs and KWPN each with one. By the final day, the Westfalian studbook had consolidated its strength by winning the 2016 FEI World Cup final, and Cornet Obolensky (Clinton x Rabanna van Costersveld – Heartbreaker) had put his mark on the event.
How does it feel for the breeder of Cornet Obolensky to have bred a stallion that has produced so many top horses? Thierry Degraeves says: “I am proud to be the breeder of Cornet Obolensky. It is great to see how good his offspring are. Luckily I have a daughter by Cornet Obolensky as a broodmare, I use stallions like For Pleasure and Casall for her. All the horses from Cornet Obolensky’s dam line are sold to the Ukraine.”
I participated in the media course walk three times to get a feeling for what the horses have to jump, it was almost unreal – what amazing horses today’s breeders are producing.
Belgian Sport Horse Vagabond de la Pomme (Vigo d'Arsouilles - Sauterelle de la Pomme x For Pleasure) won the first class of the World Cup finals with Pénélope Leprévost (FRA). This combination finished as runners-up in last year’s World Cup Final in Las Vegas. Since then the breeders have discovered the Geert Bartsoen-bred Vagabond de la Pomme as a sire, and his bloodline is remarkable!...
