They organise auctions, stallion licensings, have their own breed, and have been hugely successful in international competition... But how did it all start for the Deutsche Sportpferde-Verband (DSP) and the Süddeutschen Pferdezuchtverbände Vermarktungs GmbH?
For some years now, DSP horses have been successful at major international competitons around the world, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
Competing in eventing were Mathieu Billot (FRA) – who usually competes in showjumping – with Quel Filou 13 (Quidam’s Rubin - Miss Marple x Cascavelle, bred by Siegried Mietzel); Lea Siegl (AUT) with DSP Fighting Line (Ostermond xx - Pia x Laretto), bred by Josef Fuchs; Katrin Khoddam-Hazrati (AUT) with DSP Cosma (Canterbury - Farah x Ferman), bred by Agrarprodukte Kalbsrieth; Mateusz Kiempa (POL) with Libertina (Con Sherry - Libra x West), bred by SK Bielin and Tamra Smith (USA); and Mai Baum (Loredano - Ramiry x Leoni), bred by Gunter Gerling.
On the showjumping side was McLain Ward (USA) with Contagious (Contagio - For Mary x For Keeps), winner of the team silver, bred by Andreas Eisenmenger; and André Thieme (GER) with DSP Chakaria (Chap I - Askaria 3 x Askari), bred by Martin Jürgens. Thieme and DSP Chakaria then crowned their partnership and careers in September 2021 by winning the European Championship title in Riesenbeck, Germany.
Earlier, in Aachen, Germany, the Bavarian-born Max Kühner, riding for Austria, won the Grand Prix of Europe on the opening day of the tournament with his DSP gelding Elektric Blue P (Eldorado v Zeshoek - French Kiss P x For Pleasure) bred by Tobias Pfitzmann.
