Finally, we were able to enjoy the World Breeding Championship for Young Horses ‘live’ once again in Lanaken, thanks to numerous anti Covid-19 measures. Entrance was granted upon presentation of an EEC or Covid-Safe Ticket plus photo ID. There was even a Covid-19 testing centre that enabled the finals for five-, six-, and seven-year-olds to safely conclude.

In the youngest age-group for five-year-olds, it was the talented approved stallion Querido VG who claimed the champion’s title.
A total of 55 combinations appeared at the start of this final, to negotiate a fairly-built course and with an achievable time allowed, which resulted in a final jump off between 16 participants, of which three remained clear. The gold medal went to the BWP registered Querido VG (Dominator 2000 Z - Corsica VG Z x Chellano Z) belonging to BWP damline 115.

More than 20 international showjumpers belong to this proven dam line, including Absie, C-Hunter de Nyze Z, Calvino I de Nyze, Maxx de Nyze Z, Chablie, Alaska VG Z, Jupiter VG, Hidalgo VG, Memphis, Atlanta VG, Leandro VG, Kastelle Memo, Gitania VG, and Kurt (alias City Banking) who participated in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, and won the Dortmund World Cup qualifier as well as the Paris GP in partnership with Beat Mändli (SUI).
Querido VG has already been approved as a breeding stallion, just like his half-brother Leandro VG (by Gitano V Berkenbroeck). Both were bred by Aloïs van Gorp who was overjoyed with this world title for his own-bred horse. Querido VG is owned by studfarm Zangersheide and was ridden by Christian Ahlmann, who declared; “We are convinced of the qualities of this horse. He had a busy breeding season and has only been back for the past four or five weeks. I did one training show, which was okay. Knowing his qualities, I’m sure he can make it, but you never know what is going to happen. He did it, step by step, day by day. In the jump-off he gave me a good feeling, so I tried to do it as well as possible. Each jump was the same, very careful and intelligent. He was focused on me and the fences. The entire Zangersheide team is proud of Querido VG as he is promising for the future.” It was obviously special for Ahlmann, winning at Zangersheide and with a stallion they purchased, plus the fact that Querido’s sire is also successfully ridden by Ahlmann at the highest level.
The silver medal for five-year-olds went to BWP registered gelding Quabriolet van het Bildeken (Anakin van Schuttershof - Valiska van het Bildeken x Burggraaf), bred by Koen Gaublomme and ridden by Arnaud Gaublomme. One month before this world championship Quabriolet had already shown his showjumping qualities during the Belgian championship for young horses, where he also won the silver medal. “Quabriolet amazes us every time and continues to confirm [his ability]. He has a very pleasant character,” Gaudblomme said... To read the complete article you need to be a subscriber
