Riding horses, riding ponies, youngsters, and broodmares were offered for sale at this year’s first auction of the Westfalian Studbook, when Unforgettable Feeling, a dressage daughter of Secret, rose to the top of the price rankings at €66,500.
Meanwhile, the most expensive showjumper at the auction was Ezra vd Haterbeek Z, at €37,000. The best-priced youngster with a hammer price of €29,000 was a son of Lord Europe.
A total of 26 dressage-orientated auction candidates were on offer, from recently started young horses to highly placed competition horses. The average price for the 19 horses sold was €26,197, with the most popular offer of the day being the Secret x Swarowski daughter, Unforgettable Feeling (breeder and exhibitor: Gerhard Beeken, Bösel). The strong-moving black mare can already boast numerous placings in dressage tests up to Medium level, and will remain in Germany for further training.
Roberta Hill also cracked the €60,000. Bred and exhibited by Frederik Vekens, who paired his home-bred stallion Robert Downey Junior to the Inter I-successful performance mare Dana (Dancing Dynamite). Roberta Hill’s granddam is none other than the Rubinstein daughter Romanze, who is the dam of Olympic silver medallist Damon Hill NRW. The talented mare moved to good hands in Switzerland for the hammer price of €62,000. The lot of dressage horses was completed by two broodmares in foal to Fü̈rst Samarant and Qaside.
