This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Warmblood Fall Classic Breeders’ Sale – a milestone that solidifies its reputation as the longest-running Warmblood auction in North America.

The event, held annually in Alberta, Canada has become a cornerstone of the North American sport horse community, offering a showcase of the finest Canadian-bred Warmbloods. Over three decades, it has produced countless success stories, with horses going on to achieve greatness across multiple disciplines. MJ Heathcliff: A legend in the making

One of the most heartwarming stories to emerge from the Canadian Warmblood Fall Classic auction is that of MJ Heathcliff, a 21-year-old Canadian Warmblood who was purchased at this very auction in 2008. MJ Heathcliff, bred by MJ Farms, has become a legend in his own right, recently winning the ‘Hoofbeats in Heaven’ award at the Prentice Creek three-day event. This prestigious award, sponsored by Seventh Heaven Coaching and Kendra McNutt, is given to a horse that embodies the true spirit of eventing – a horse with a huge heart, a passion for the sport, and a willingness to compete despite the odds.
Heathcliff has certainly earned this accolade. Over his long and illustrious career, he has safely carried four stellar riders – Shelby Friesen, Mikayla Hoffman, Mackenzie Hoffman, and Olivia Stafford – from Starter to Prelim levels. His journey has taken him across Alberta, British Columbia, Washington, California, and Montana, where he has won the hearts of spectators, riders, and coaches alike. Despite his age, Heathcliff continues to compete with the same enthusiasm and dedication, proving that age is just a number for a horse with such a big heart.
