New stallion makes his mark at Alberta Breeders’ Show

The 2024 Alberta Breeders’ Show was especially well endowed with top-quality foals. With over CAD$2,000 in prize money, the Foal Futurity was hotly contested, and won by the ‘stellar’ MH Interstellar Navigator.

MH Interstellar Navigator is by the young stallion Zico von Buchmatt (Glock’s Zonik) and out of a Whirlwind II mare, and it was an extremely popular victory. His breeder, Jennette Coote of MJ Farms, a founding director and tirelkess volunteer for the CWHBA, showed what five generations of breeding within the Canadian Warmblood program can do.
Zico von Buchmatt’s pedigree features four solid dressage sires in his third generation: Rousseau [KWPN], Romanov [Oldbg], and Hanoverians De Niro and Rubinstein, and his inheritance proved to be quite potent as all three of his offspring exhibited elastic movement. Zico first nominated for the Stallion Service Auction in 2023, which qualified his foals for the 2024 futurity.

Second- and third-placed foals went to, what is obviously a ‘good nick’. Both sired by Confidento (Contendro I x Embassy I) and out of mares by Dresden; breeder Nichols Rohrbach and his father Erwin have certainly found a winning combination...
