We are sad to announce that Jaap Werners (79), an iconic visionary in Dutch sport horse breeding has passed away. The son of a farmer, Werners was devoted to the improvement of horses, and provided exceptional leadership with several different boards. Although he began with Dutch racing, his passion for horses continued in breeding as chairman of the stallion selection committee at the KWPN, and later with the sport board KNHS when he unified 14 different groups under one umbrella organization. In life he was recognized with several distinguished awards, as an honorary member of both KWPN and KNHS, as well as the 'Horseman of the Year' title in 2008. He leaves behind his wife Till, children and grandchildren, remarkable memories, and a strong foundation in all horses he approved as well as all boards he led and supported. C.v.A.
