Dina Ellermann and ESH Donna Anna training

By Liis Ira / ESHB

At the end of June 2021, Estonian sport horse breeders received the fantastic news of Dina Ellermann and ESH Donna Anna’s qualification to the Tokyo Olympic Games. That alone is a small miracle.... But that’s not all!

The Estonian Sport Horse Alfons Ra under the saddle of Brazilian international rider Yuri Mansur, and ESH Caesar, who will compete with the youngest member of the equestrian team at Tokyo 2020 – You Zhang (CHN), just 20 years old – have also announced they will participate in showjumping.
This fact seems unbelievable, but it is true – our small studbook with 300 members and around 300 foals per year has produced three Olympic horses, and all of them were trained up to Grand Prix level by our own Estonian riders.
That the creations of breeders Hinno Nokkur, Liivaku and Rebala stables met such talented riders as Paul Argus, Dina Ellermann, and Rein Pill has been a brilliant coincidence. And whether we see these horses performing in the Olympic arena is now also up to fate and the first horse inspection.
What makes it even more special is that both Alfons Ra (2007/ESH/g Aromats - Fiorella x False Pass), bred by Rebala Stables, and Caesar (2009/ESH/g Cash - Athena x Agrovorms Amerigo) are true ESH originals – both descending from local motherlines.
This is a proof to our breeders that Estonia already has valuable marelines of its own, which isn’t so common in the sport horse breeding world.
