The Alberta chapter of the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association recently held it’s annual inspection show – and what a weekend it was, with 20 mares and 42 entries overall. Incredible quality, represending a variety of world-renowned bloodlines.
The first evening hosted an education hour mentored by Joanne Wright, a senior inspector, who talked about inspections and mare presentation. Saturday started the day with the Foal Futurity – offering over $2,200 in prize money raised through the Stallion Service donations – and concluded with riding classes.
Via the Foal Futurity, the offspring of over 20 stallions were eligible, with this year’s winner being Ulterra Ivy’s Emerald sired by Nuit d’Emerald (Emerald x Balou du Rouet) out of I’ve Things To Do by Indoctro. The tall athletic filly was bred by Cathy Chalack of Ulterra Equestrian and purchased by Erin Stauffer of Legacy Performance at just six hours old.
Second place to Ulterra Queen B-LC by Companero PJ (Comme il faut x Quality Time TN) out of Ice Cool Niki WS (Zambesi TN x Burggraaf). This young filly was bred and owned by Cathy Chalack of Ulterra Equestrian. Third was Bonsai by Belshazzar (BeachBoy x Arkansas) out of Sakura (Sandakan x Bajazzo), ahead of Quinlan, by Quidam Blue out of an Arabian mare owned by Daryl Cole. Fifth was Julia SSF by Jethro Tull (I’m Special de Muze x Voltaire) out of Carabelanomia (Acolino x Equador) owned by Shuttleworth Stock Farms.
This year’s Young Horse Champion was the beautiful grey two-year-old mare bred by Touchstone Farm’s Chris Gould. Cherry Blossom by Charmeur (Beaulieu’s Conquest x Heraldik) out of Sakura (Sandakan x Bajazzo) was also Grand Champion Mare of the show. Reserve Young Horse Champion was Ulterra Ivy’s Emerald, a 2025 filly by Nuit d’Emerald x Indoctro.
The Open Dressage Foal Champion, V Totally Fuerst, a tall dark colt by Totilas x Furst Grandios, was bred by Darlene Donszelman of End of the Road Farms, while CWHBA dressage foal winner was Worship Street by Wynton x Furstenreich owned by Old Gate Farm...
