Top supplier of stallions at BWP expertise: Cornet Obolensky (Clin- ton - Rabanna vh Costerveld x Heartbreaker)

BELGIUM (by Jo de Roo) The second phase of the BWP stallion approval took place from January 18-20, in Liege. On the Friday and Saturday the event welcomed many Belgian and foreign visitors. During this second phase the three- and four-year-old candidates were presented. In the catalogue we counted 115 candidates in the option ‘showjumping’ (including 75 BWP-bred) and nine in the option ‘dressage’ (five BWP-bred). There was certainly a wide variety of performance bloodlines.

The top suppliers were Cornet Obolensky/ex-Windows van het Coster veld with nine candidates, followed by Thunder van de Zuuthoeve (with eight sons), Diamant de Semilly and the clone Gemini xx (each with six sons) and Comme Il Faut, Toulon and Vigo d’Ar- souilles (with four apiece). According to the WBFSH-studbook ranking BWP is number one. On the occasion of the BWP stallion expertise we once again enjoyed high-end show-jumping quality!

In total, 47 candidates in the option ‘showjumping’ and six in the option ‘dressage’ were selected to participate at the third phase that will take place from March 15-17 in Meerdonk.

The offspring of Cornet Obolensky was the most successful: seven of the nine presented sons were selected for the third phase. In his hoofprints followed the offspring of Comme Il Faut (three of four sons selected), Emerald van‘t Ruytershof and Iron Man van de Padenborre (two out of three presented sons apiece).

On Friday, the candidates in the option ‘showjumping’ were evaluated during free jumping, whereas the candidates in the option ‘dressage’ were judged according to their free movement in the arena. Despite the great number of candidates, the program finished at 9 p.m, but it was a pity that we had to wait more than one hour before it was announced which candidates had been selected to participate on Saturday. All the dressage candidates were selected and, in showjumping, the jury selected 43 BWP-bred and 24 non-BWP stallions...
