INTERNATIONAL (by Aurélie Covini) Since October 23, 2017, around 660 horses have been sold in more than 20 auctions. This is not the time for foals, but horses of all types have been sold, and many stallions changed hands during the various licensing shows, especially in Germany: Westfalian, Oldenburg, Hanoverian, Holsteiner... But, like every December, the aution sensation typically occurs– this year during the 38th PSI Auction, where more than 25 horses were sold for €250,000 or more! In 2017, a total of €14,635,000 was paid for 47 horses on December 3 in Ankum.
According to Ulli Kasse- lann, “That was an exceptional auction.” To which Paul Schockemöhle added “Quality is honoured”. A very impressive number, but a little bit lower than 2016 when the auction generated €16,501,000 for 48 horses sold.
The highest price of this incredible auction was paid for Zum Glück (Zonik x Flo- restan), a four-year-old stallion who went under the hammer for €850,000, sold to the RS2 Dressage Centre in the Netherlands.
The second highest price of €700,000 was also paid for a dressage horse, Florette, a four-year-old Hanoverian mare by Fürstenball x Don Crusador, purchased by Harmony Sport Horses (USA).
During the Westfalian auction for dressage horses, an- other high price was paid for a Millenium son. After a thrilling bidding duel, the black stallion, bred by Heike and Werner Pleines from Uedem, sold for €700,000 to the Bonhomme stud in Berlin.
During this short period, three dressage stallions – Zonik, Millennium and Fürstenball – managed to accumulate more than one million euros in turnover with the sales of their off- spring. The report is the same for three jumping stallions: Conthargos (Converter - Cajandra Z x Carthago), Diarado (Diamant de Semilly - Roxette I x Corrado I) and Chacco-Blue (Chambertin - Contara x Contender)...
