As the successor to Dr. Carina Krumbiegel, agricultural engineer Anja Bartha has taken over as State Breeding Director for the German Sport Horse and Old Württemberg breeds at the Baden-Württemberg Horse Breeding Association, as well as the Director of the Baden-Württemberg Horse Competence Center.

Agriculture is in Anja Bartha’s blood, as her grandmother came from a dairy farm in the Oberbergischer Kreis district. Her grandfather – a true East Prussian and passionate supporter of Trakehner breeding – passed on to her his enthusiasm for horses, which was evident in the native Rhinelander from a young age. Early on, she was able to gain practical experience in both horse breeding and husbandry at various Warmblood and Thoroughbred stud farms, gaining valuable insights into the associated challenges.
After graduating from high school, she studied agricultural sciences with a focus on animal production at the University of Bonn and, after completing her studies, received a research grant on the steroid profile of horses. Her transition from the world of science to practical application began with the start of her work as breeding director at the Main Association for Trotter Breeding (Hauptverband für Traberzucht e.V.). With over 20 years of experience in horse breeding management, she possesses in-depth knowledge of all facets of association work, especially in the design and development of breeding programs.
