Although the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders Association is relatively young when compared to the major studbooks in Europe, some very interesting bloodlines have developed and certain stallions are having a significant impact on the Canadian breeding population.

One such stallion is Cheops Z (Crack - Local Starlet x Locato), still going strong at age 28. Born in Canada in 1996, Cheops participated in the first Stallion Performance Test held by the association in 2000. Bred by Gerwig Bahl of Okanagan Show Jumpers, he was purchased by a partnership as a young stallion prospect. The group was attracted by his legacy pedigree which combines the major Holstiener lines of Cor de la Bryère, Ramzes X, Ladykiller xx, and Capitol I.
Early in his competition career Cheops suffered a serious injury and underwent a number of surgeries including two for colic. Sole ownership was taken over by Janice Tyndall of Salmon Arm, BC. In spite of these setbacks, he nevertheless has registered 58 direct offspring and 44 grandchildren.
In Tyndall’s own words “Cheops is a great cross with Thoroughbred mares, producing some nice eventing horses who were bold and could gallop. He has been a joy to handle and have around; an old soul. I believe that comes through from his blood lines.” No doubt his influence will be lasting and, through the availability of frozen semen, can continue to increase...
