The CHIO Aachen is always special for attracting the world’s best horses and riders, and also for allowing the younger generation to shine on its hallowed turf. Of course, breeders also flock to the Soers venue which has evolved to become one of the most prestigious tournaments, to watch high-level sport, but also to network and meet like-minded fans of equestrian sport from Europe as well as the other side of the world.

Of course, among the many well-known equine names, there were newcomers, such as the SLS-bred stallion Cazador LS (Casall – Takana LS x Dollar Dela Pierre, bred by La Silla) who won a 1m45 class in Aachen under the saddle of Ireland’s Darragh Kenny. Cazador LS is a grandson of the top showjumping mare Dollar Girl (Dynamo - Sensation x Salem, bred by Heinz Vollmers), and although his dam, Takana LS, never competed, she has six offspring that are jumping at 1m45 and higher.
It’s also worth mentioning the remarkable string of horses that Daniel Deusser brought to Aachen Starting with Calisto Blue (Chacco-Blue - Fontara x Con Air, bred by Gestüt Lewitz), an OS-bred gelding with a double cross to Holsteiner stallion Contender (Calypso II - Gofine x Ramiro Z, Stamm 2472, bred by Niko Detlef). Calisto Blue’s damline has been built by Rudolf Meyer, who also produced Sandro Boy (Sandro - Wiadora x Grannus). Next, the Zangersheide-bred stallion Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve - Whoopie C x Mr. Blue, bred by Jonas Bellemans) who is showing consistently fine performances. His dam, Whoopie C, jumped at 1m60 under the saddle of Yves Vanderhasselt, while his half sister HH Donnatella (Toulon) is now jumping at 1m60 under the saddle of Daniel Stransky. Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z finished second in the Rolex Grand Prix, behind Kent Farrington’s brilliant mare, Gazelle (2006: Kashmir van Schuttershof x Indoctro).

Deusser’s third horse – a mare I’ve already been following for a few years – is Killer Queen VDM (Eldorado van de Zeshoek - Derly Chin de Muze x For Pleasure, bred by Dirk and Ann Bruggeman-Carpentier), who won a 1m60 class in Aachen, and whose dam, Derly Chin, jumped at 1m60 under saddle of Sharn Wordley. A tragic accident resulted in the early retirement of grand-dam Werly Chin de Muze (Nabab de Reve), after she reached 1m50 level. Werly Chin de Muze is a full sister to Walloon de Muze and Walnut de Muze – all three being daughters of the famous Chin Chin mare, Qerly Chin. Daniel Deusser was chosen as the best rider of this year’s CHIO Aachen.
Pénélope Leprévost (FRA) had three stallions in Aachen, with the most familiar being the Selle Français-bred Andiamo Semilly (Diamant de Semilly - Tati du Palis x Muguet du Manoir, bred by Richard Levallois). His previous rider Olivier Martin was responsible for his early education and always knew he would become a Grand Prix horse by the good feeling he always gave his rider. Andiamo’s eldest foal crop is now three and, in total, he so far has 400 registered offspring in France...
