February means it’s time for sport testing in Germany

In February there were two sport tests for four- and five-year-old stallions in Germany. The first took place in Münster-Handorf, with day one of the three-day test being used to familiarize stallions with the arena. Day two is for rider training in the morning under the watchful eye of the judges, ahead of an afternoon dressage test. Day three is devoted to being ridden under the saddles of test riders.

In total there were 36 stallions participating in the dressage test in Münster Handorf: 26 four-year-olds and 12 five-year-olds, and it was interesting to observe that the stallions with Dutch Sires received the highest notes.
Among the four-year-olds the Oldenburger bred Gaitano (Goldberg - Fee x Rohdiahmant, bred by Heiko Meinen) had the highest total score of 8.61, receiving a 9.00 for his walk and 9.00 for rideability. Dancelli (Dante Weltino - Biscaya x Baroncelli, bred by Hubertus Hufendiek) had the second highest score of 8.46 (9.00 for his canter).
The KWPN bred Jovian (Apache – Zinith x Tango) won the five-year-old test by a considerable margin, with a final score of 9.08 after earning 9.50 for trot, canter, and rideability. The runner up was Dante Quando (Dante Weltino - Schiva x Fidertanz, bred by Franz-Josef Bolte) with a total note of 8.26 (8.50 being his highest mark for his walk).

It was not all good news, however, as three stallions failed to pass the test: the Trakehner Sir Picasso (Distelzar -Sirkit x Pretty Dancer, bred by Charlotte Vogel); Oldenburger Sezarion (Sezuan - Estelle x Sandro Hit, bred by Günter Lüschen); and the Hanoverian Dresscode (De Niro - First Lady x Fidermark, bred by Karl-Heinz Bröcker)...
