SPAIN (by Jean Llewellyn/press release) A total of 2,800 new breeders and more than 10,000 new horses were registered with the Pure-bred Spanish Horse studbook (LG/PRE/ANCCE) in 2016. The new breeders included registrations from countries such as Algeria, Bahrain and Russia.
The new horse registraions totalled 10,941 – which represents a 3.4% increase in total herd numbers for the breed. Thus, on December 31, 2016, there were 231,003 horses from 31,050 active stud farms, located in 65 countries. Of the new breed- ers registered with the PRE Studbook (12% more than in 2015), 34% are from abroad, with most of these being in the United States, Germany and Italy. The re- maining 66% are from Spain, with Andalusia, Madrid, Valencia and Castilla-La Mancha leading the ranking.
Regarding other ser vices of- fered by the PRE Stud Book, 5,028 horses were assessed as having ‘basic aptitudes’ as breeding stock, and a total of 9,129 changes of ownership were processed...
