The Polish Young Horse Championships are the main selection event of the Polish Horse Breeders’ Association with its 34-year tradition. Since 2025, horses with Polish passports have competed in the Polish Young Horse Championships (MPMK), while foreign horses compete in the Polish Young Horse Cup (PPMK).
In 2026, LKS Stragona Strzegom hosted the showjumping competition for this important sporting and breeding event. In early September, this venue will host the Polish Young Horse Championships and the Polish Young Horse Cup in eventing, while mid September will see the Michałów Stud Farm host the sporting endurance events. The final two championship events will be held during the first weekend of October: dressage at the Lider Radzionków Riding Club and driving at the Łack Stallion Stud.
MPMK/PPMK jumping
Traditionally, the two youngest age groups of horses are judged on style, receiving an average score for potential, jumping technique, and rideability. This year, the jury judging the four- and five-year-old horses included Rudolf Mrugała – a former showjumper, experienced trainer, and vice president of the Polish Equestrian Federation for sports affairs – and Hubert Kierznowski, a trainer and active competitor.
Victory for 4yo Oleander NW
The youngest group of four-year-old horses included 28 horses in the championships and 21 in the cup, with the Polish Sport Horse Oleander NW (Ogano BWP - Olandia sp x Grand Slam VDL [BWP]) winning the four-year-old title at the Polish Junior Horse Championships (MPK). The bay gelding, presented by Mateusz Tyszko, was bred at the Nad Wigrami Stud Farm and remains their property. The jury assessed the horse as having great jumping potential, a very good canter, a dynamic takeoff, and fast legs.
The silver medal went to the Polish sport horse Last Call (Kiliman Sitte [sBs] - Latisna As [Westf] x Lancer III [Holst]). The bay gelding, bred by Stanisław Janik and owned by Iwona Kruszynska, demonstrated an excellent canter at breakneck speed, excellent fore and hind leg movement, and was very focused on his rider, Anna Stasiak.
Bronze went to another Nadwigry stud graduate: Liago NW (MJT Nevados S sp - Liberia [Oldbg/OS] x Livello [Holst]). His current owner, Karol Gardulski, entrusted him to Daria Kobiernik to ride. Liago NW is the son of a Polish breeding legend, Nevados S sp (Calvados Z [Zang] - Nestia sp x Romualdo [KWPN]), bred by the late Stanisław Szurik. Ridden by Gregory Wathelet, Nevados S won, among other things, a Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games bronze medal for the Belgian team. At the 2026 Polish Horse Championships, this outstanding Polish-bred stallion had the most offspring with PZHK passports...
