The CWHBA board has taken a bold step into the future. In keeping with the trends to go digital, CWHBA will issue, digital registration certificates starting in 2026. Printed paper certificates will still be available as an option.
This move is in line with the trend to go completely digital for recording and tracking horses in sport and in breeding. Equestrian Canada has already made the move to digital sport licenses, and the FEI has introduced a digital passport called Equipass. At present it will not replace the physical passports, but is designed to enhance record keeping for health and sport for FEI horses. Will the physical national passports be phased out in Europe? That remains unknown, but the trend and technology is rapidly coming into place to suport future developments.
Since the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders’ Association adopted the Equis Studbook management system, approximately 50% of CWHBA registrations are being administered online. To encourage more use of the system a fee reduction is being offered for online registrations.
Heather Campbell, an active breeder and Board member, was an early adopter and commented: “The online registration system has allowed me to finally get my foals registered in the summer of their birth rather than waiting until the end of season to try to get into the office to do paperwork. Being able to do it from your phone, even from the field is a game changer for time management.”
The convenience of having all your documents available on your phone or computer will be welcome in this internet world of instant gratification. Registrations and transfers of ownership will take only minutes to submit. Delays due to uncertain mail service will be a thing of the past. The only limiting factors will be DNA parentage verification and verification of new owners...
