At the KFPS Central Mare Inspection, the Friesian horse studbook welcomed no fewer than 14 new Model mares. The queen of the ball was the three-year-old Roelien V. van de Miedwei Ster (Tiede 501 x Haitse 425) who became overall champion.
Roelien beat the 2023 champion: Model mare Berber van Brabantshof Model AA (Jehannes 484 x Norbert 444).
More then 300 horses
From September 11-14 it was one big, four-day party in Harich, southwestern Friesland, when the best Friesian horses presented themselves for the Central Mare Inspection. More than 300 Friesian horses had been selected for the Central Mare Inspection during the 2024 judging season, which is actually the national championship for the best foals, enters (yearlings), twenties (two-year-olds), and mares. Championships are also scheduled in the sport during these days: in harness and under saddle, when the versatility of the Friesian horse shows at its best.
Studbook stallions stand out
The four days began with semi-finals where mares and geldings/stallions could qualify in dressage for the finals, when guest riders took their place in the saddle to try out the four-, five-, and six-year-old horses. According to these riders, they were enthusiastic about the quality of these horses, as they more typically ride horses of other breeds. The Central Mare Inspection is primarily a female affair, however a number of studbook stallions showed themselves in dressage. And they did so very well.
