As we prepare for the curtain to fall on 2022, so too did the curtain fall on the careers of two Irish Sport Horse showing stalwarts this season, View Point (ISH) belonging to Swansea’s Jill Day, and the multi-winning showing broodmare of the Wafer family in Co. Wicklow, Parkmore Evita (ISH)[TIH].
Both of these horses saw off their final show ring appearances in style with the prolific lightweight show hunter View Point (ISH) winning the supreme horse of the year championships for the second time in a row at the 2022 Horse of the Year Show (HOYS), while Parkmore Evita (ISH)[TIH] cemented her legacy as one of the leading mares in Ireland.
A traditionally bred Irish Sport Horse by the Thoroughbred stallion Ghareeb xx, and out of Parkmore Sunrise (ISH)[TIH] by Coolcorran Cool Diamond (ISH)[TIH], Parkmore Evita (ISH)[TIH] last won the coveted Breeders Championship prize at the 2019 Dublin Horse Show. Following which, Patrick Wafer and his family went on to claim the Horse Sport Ireland National Eventing Foal Championship with Parkmore Tyson (ISH) by Kylemore Stud’s resident multi-Grand Prix winning stallion Tyson (KWPN) in 2019 also.
After a pandemic-enforced hiatus for the RDS Dublin International Horse Show in 2020 and 2021, Parkmore Evita (ISH)[TIH] returned to the hallowed ground of the Ballsbridge Arena and picked up where she left off, with the 2019 winning mare and her filly foal Parkmore Tyra (ISH), a full sibling to Parkmore Tyson (ISH), adding the new eventing section of the Broodmare Championship to her roll of honour.
Along with this second Broodmare title, Parkmore Evita (ISH)[TIH] took victory in the Banner Broodmare Class at Clarecastle Show just two weeks before that famous win in Dublin. This adds to her 2016 win in the Balmoral Broodmare Championship, the All Ireland Championship, and the Coote Cup in Dublin in 2017 also.
Speaking to Horse Sport Ireland after Parkmore Tyson (ISH) won the Horse Sport Ireland National Eventing Foal Championship, owner Patrick Wafer, commenting on the quality of Parkmore Evita as a broodmare, said: “She was a smashing foal and she has everything you look for in a broodmare – excellent conformation, movement, and temperament. We always had her ear tagged as one to keep, preserving the bloodlines for years to come.”
This win for Patrick Wafer came some 32 years after his first win in the prestigious Breeders Championship with Parkmore Jewel (ID) and her foal Parkmore Chance (ID) in 1990. The Breeders Championship is judged as a combination of the broodmare and foal class together, not the mares or foals being judged separately.
The mareline is a successful performance damline, with Parkmore Evita (ISH)[TIH] being a sister to Parkmore Lux (ISH) by Lux Z (Hann), competing for Sweden at CSI5* level with Hanna Mauritzon.
Parkmore Evita (ISH)[TIH] is a full sister to Parkmore Reeb (ISH)[TIH], who com-peted in Amateur showjumping classes in Ireland with Liam O’Connor and is the dam of the international three-day-event horses Parkmore Cassino (ISH) by Cassino (SWWB) and Future Reeb by Future Trend (Oldbg)...
