The latest issue of the Holsteiner Verband’s PFERD+SPORT reported the sport and results from the state championships, focusing on the medal winners, for whom we would like to provide interesting profiles.
Starting with the four-year-old jumping horses, it was United b – a daughter of Uriko – who secured this year’s title. Out of a dam by Newton x Gundyman xx from line 2657, United b was presented perfectly by Birgit Gärtner on behalf of Fabian Kühl and the b-Horses GmbH. Roland Metz guided the b-Horses’ managing director’s attention towards United b during a mare test and Kühl was able to buy her from the breeder, Wolfgang Heller of Hennef. “It is rare to see a four-year-old horse with such natural balance. She takes off from the ground enor-mously quickly, has a great basic speed, and high scores for rideability. United has every-thing a jumping horse needs,” Kühl stated. Adding that, as far as the long-term perspecrive is concerned; “We believe in a successful future for this special horse in the long run.” Right now, the young mare is enjoying a well-earned break.
Five-year-old jumping horses
Valenzano (Vagabond de la Pomme) is the new five-year-old state champion, named after a famous Italian racing-car driver. Out of a Christian dam, Valenzano comes from Holsteiner line 6582. The chestnut stallion was bred by Kai Wullweber of Todesfelde but calls Manfred von Allwörden’s Grönwohldhof home today.
In 2019, Valenzano’s career began at the licensing in Neumünster. He left with a positive judgement, impressing judges and spectators alike at Elmshorn. His final rounds were scored a 9.0 and 9.2 respectively. The Irishman Diarmuid Howley trained and presented him, while the judges credited Valenzano with “a lot of power and limitless ability.” It will be exciting to see whether he will forward these characteristics which are so important for a jumping horse to his offspring. His owner has already disclosed that several of his own mares are in foal to Valenzano.
Title for six-year-old Tiepolo
Tiepolo (Toulon x Cassini I) flew to the title of six-year-old jumpers, a gelding from line 7492 under the saddle of Hannes Ahlmann. In a super-fast jump-off the pair finished first in this very strong state championship field. “Tiepolo might not be the perfect specialist for young horse classes, but he is a horse who is absolutely keen on the sport,” is how Hannes Ahlmann describes the bay. “He jumps rather efficiently but very, very rarely with mistakes, and he is very fast at the same time.”
These same characteristics also apply to Tiepolo’s full sister as Tokyo finished fourth in the championship for seven-year-olds. The two of them are almost identical in looks, and Ahlmann admits with a smile; “It can happen that they are mistaken for one another at home, and therefore up in each other’s stables.” It was only in January that Ahlmann took over riding Tiepolo; “I am very grateful to Jürgen Böge who lets me ride these two fantastic horses in the sport.
