The 2021 AES Winter Stallion Gradings were again very well supported with some exciting and talented young horses coming forward. Following from our report about British stallion gradings in the previous issue of World Breeding News, it is now a great pleasure to introduce our new stallions who came forward on November 26, 2021 in Schijndel (NED).
The event was very well attended, with 28 stallions in total accepted by the studbook. Of those, 16 stallions were aimed at showjumping, nine were aimed at dressage, and there was also one pony stallion.
Stallions are accepted by the AES in four categories: Registered status is given to young stallions who are correct in conformation and movement, and who have the potential to mature into excellent sport and breeding horses. This status enables owners to use the stallion on up to five mares, providing the opportunity for him to prove himself. himself. Registered stallions will need to be re-presented for assessment as they mature.
Licensed status is awarded to young stallions who are showing exceptional potential and maturity. Owners are able to advertise licensed stallions for public stud duties for up to 30 mares per annum and will be monitored by the AES stallion team as they progress in the sport.
Approved status provides a lifetime, unlimited permission to use the stallion for breeding, and is usually awarded on the basis of sports performance and/or quality of offspring. Part of the approval process is a thorough inspection under saddle.
Elite status is awarded to only a handful of the very best stallions who have proven themselves in the international sport.
At Schijndel, approved status was awarded to just one stallion in Loxton van de Groote Kamps (Kannan x Roven xx), who was bred and is owned E.W.J. Bakker. He convinced the jury with an excellent attitude and jumping ability and has already made a good start to his competition career. His dam is half-sister to the outstanding international 1m60 stallion Presley Boy, whose highlights include Grand Prix wins in Calgary, Monterrey and Arezzo.

One of the stand-out stallions was New Diamant RT (Diamant de Semilly x Cassini I), bred by R. Tel and presented by Stal van de Grenshoeve. The Jury remarked: “This Diamant son is a complete stallion. He has a good canter, a good model, and has power and overview on the jump. He is also very well bred and seems to have a top attitude.”..
