Based on the top 30 horses in each of the three age-group consolation finals at the showjumping World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken, KWPN and Zangersheide are leading, each with 16 horses. They are followed by Holsteiner and Selle Français (9), Irish Sport Horse and BWP (6), and AES alongside MIPAAF (5). It’s interesting to note that while Zangersheide horses gained the majority of their tally in the two youngest age groups (5yo and 6yo), seven of the Selle Français (just under 78%), came from the oldest group of seven year olds. It was also gratifying to see some of the smaller studbooks showing their qualities, such as MIPAAF – an acronym for the Italian Ministry of Agriculture under whose umbrella sport horse breeding now falls – formerly the SI (Sella Italiana) or UNIRE. Also, Danish Warmblood (3), a studbook best known for breeding world-class dressage horses. Today’s medal final, however, will provide a more interesting studbook analysis.
