One week to go for FEI/WBFSH showjumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses

Less than week until the FEI/WBFSH showjumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses kicks off at it’s regular home at Zangersheide, in Lanaken, Belgium. A launching pad for sport horse careers, in both the competition arena and as young breeding prospects, the event also hosts the Belgian national showjumping championship and, according to many of the riders, “Do you know anyone who does not want to be Belgian champion?” Former champion Pieter Devos has been proving the championship value of Espoir throughout this year, confirmed with fourth place at the European championships in Gothenburg last month. This year Devos will start in the Belgian championship with the Claire Z (Clearway - Colessa Z x Coronado), bred in the east of Belgium by Ralph Wansart. Now nine years old, as a filly Claire Z finished 13th at the Z-Festival and was then sold in the Z Quality Auction. Claire Z started at five-star level this year. Ironically, Pieter’s most feared competitor could well be his own brother, Wouter, two years younger, who has consistently earned podium places this year with the 14-year-old mare Tonik Hero (Ogano Sitte - Citadine du Cortil x Elegant de l’Ile), bred by Henry Luc. Meanwhile, Gudrun Patteet will ride Sea Coast Atlantic du Seigneur (Schilling - Atlanta Sitte Z x Aramis de la Cense) – an 11-year-old sBs gelding. Interestingly, Tonik Hero and Atlantic are related in their third and fourth generations, respectively, via Insel Sitte – a daughter of BWP ambassador Major de la Cour, out of Gute Sitte (Grande). Sea Coast Atlantic du Seigneur is no stranger to Lanaken, having won the seven-year-old world championship title seven years ago. Several other champions will also now be competing for the Belgian title Cor van de Wateringhoeve (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve - Karien van de Wateringhoeve x Lys de Darmen) with Karel Cox, and Fou de Toi van de Keihoeve (Toulon - Edition du Sapin x Melkior du Montois) under the saddle of (Gilles Dunon), as well as the new talents of Constant van Paesschen and Wilm Vermeir, respectively, Carlow van de Helle (Caretino - Nora VIII x Corofino I) and DM Jacqmotte (Toulon - Ummy x Indoctro). The WBCYH, including various Zangersheide events and activities, begins on September 20 and runs till Sunday, September 24.
