It is official: The Zangersheide-approved KWPN stallion Armstrong van de Kapel (Quasimodo Z – Bonnie x Farn) has quit the Philippaerts’ family stable in Belgium and moved to Qatar ahead of the FEI deadline for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. According to Olivier Philippaerts, “It’s with a heavy heart that we see the departure of Armstrong, but that’s high level sport. We have experienced some wonderful moments, and Armstrong will be able to grow to become a reliable and competitive horse. I would like to thank Jan Vermeiren, his co-owner, for his trust in giving me the opportunity to evolve with Armstrong up to the highest level”. Together, the pair contributed to Belgium’s victory in the Nations’ Cup final in Barcelona and, fortunately, Olivier will not be without a first-class ride, having celebrated fifth place in the Leipzig World Cup last weekend with Legend of Love/ex Wild Lady (Landzauber – Waldperle x Corgraf).
