The Haras Nationaux (French national studs) – now under the auspices of the IFCE (Institute Français du Chevel et de l’Équitation will be hosting a one-day seminar on Tuesday, January 21, 2017 enitled: Horse breeding: Between a return to the basics and technical innovations. Scheduled to take place at the University of Caen (Campus 1), the programme will begin by reviewing the latest research in reproductive techniques. This will feature a presentation of an especially promising new technique for predicting fertility in stallions that employs flow cytometry – a technology used to analyze the physical and chemical characteristics of particles in a fluid using laser beams. The afternoon will be devoted to assessing good practices in breeding in terms of improvements and optimising feed. Also, six technical innovations will be presented by researchers/professionals to illustrate the interest applied, not only to basic research but projects with a determined practical purpose. Experts will provide specifics regarding the applications of research work in their activities, as well as future advances.
