The 2017 French national age-group finals in dressage have just concluded in Saumur. The winner of the four-year-old championship category, ridden by Jessica Michel Botton, was the diversely bred gelding Dorian Grey de Hus (Don Juan de Hus [KWPN] - Poetin Z [Z] x Sandro Hit [Oldbg]) bred by Xavier Marie/Haras de Hus. His 93% total score earned him ‘elite’ status. Also earning ‘elite’ with 87.9% was the five-year-old champion First Step Valentin (Vitalis - Filomenia x Fidermark), a registered Westfalian stallion bred in Germany by Hubert Waning, and ridden by Larissa Pauluis. The eldest age-group also had the fewest entries, with only 10 horses vying for the six-year-old title, and a mark of only 0.6 separating the champion from the runner-up. With 88.6, the Oldenburger Flair Royal (Fairbanks - Banyosa R x Royal Diamond) finished marginally ahead of stallion Diamondgio LTH Dressvalue (Diamo Gold - Feldaster x Pik Noir), ridden and bred respectively by Maxime Collard/Gerd and Hajo Reuter, and Lena Thouvenin/Dirk Struss.
