Dixson and Ian Miller return to form

Top Canadian rider Ian Millar (CAN) and DIXSON at the OLG Caledon Pan Am Equestrian Park during the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games in Caledon, Ontario, Canada.

A rejuvenated 14-year-old Dixson (Vigo d’Arsouilles - Sanna x Olisco) returned to the Wellington international arena following career-saving surgery for sinus hematomas and immediately carried his long-time partner Ian Millar to victory in the CSI3* $35,000 World Cup qualifier. It was an emotional moment for ‘Captain Canada’ whose bid to make an 11th Olympic appearance came to an end last year for Rio 2016 due to Dixson’s unusual condition. During an experimental surgical procedure – which now carries Dixson’s name – a Cornell veterinarian removed the roots of the hematomas after all other treatments had failed. Hopefully this veteran partnership will see several more years of successful competition before the 70-year-old Millar finally hangs up his spurs. Photo: FEI
