De Niro has had to be put to sleep after suffering from laminitis for quite a while. The entire Klosterhof Medingen team is very sad about the loss of this unique stallion.
Highly successful in Grand Prix dressage, De Niro has written breeding history unlike virtually any other stallion. Among the special highlights of his sporting career are winning the German Championship for professional riders in 2001 and in 2003 as well as victory in the German Dressur Derby under the saddle of Dolf-Dietram Keller. In 2008 De Niro was proclaimed ’Stallion of the Year' by the Hanoverian Association. Included among his 86 sons licensed in Germany are the Hanoverian champion stallion Dancier, the Oldenburg champion Don Deluxe, as well as Desperados and his full brothers Danone I and II. Since 2012, De Niro has been at the top of the world ranking list for best dressage horse sires. His offspring have been internationally successful in dressage arenas around the world, to name a few: Desperados FRH, Delgado, D'Agostino FRH, Dablino FRH and Voice. De Niro leaves a big gap in breeding. According to a stud farm press release; “We are grateful to this outstanding stallion and wonderful horse for two decades, where he has represented Klosterhof Medingen world-wide and will continue to be present for a long time through his offspring”.
